Although the majority of home owners would love not having a budget when designing their dream kitchen, we have to be realistic. When you begin any renovation, you have to have a plan in place and a budget to stick to because money doesn’t grow on trees just yet. Kitchen remodels can get pricey really quick, but you don’t want to sacrifice quality to save a little money. You’ll want to find a happy medium of having quality materials while staying within your budget. We are going to go over several ways to save on a kitchen renovation and get the kitchen of your dreams. In the end, who wouldn’t want more bang for their buck.
- Plan – Going into this renovation, you need to have a plan in place of what you want and how you are going to get there. This includes deciding on what work you will be able to complete. If you have any doubt in your mind that a professional needs to complete a portion of a job, it would be in your best interest to stick to your gut. This can end up saving time and money in the long run, i.e. fewer mistakes!
- Cabinets – We all know that in some kitchens, all the cabinets need to be replaced, but thankfully this isn’t all of them. Fortunately, there are several ways that you can spruce up your already installed cabinets. If the cabinets currently in your kitchen function, priming and painting the cabinets can change the look of outdatedness. Maybe it’s just the doors that could use some TLC. Doors with a glass insert or not having doors at all can make a huge difference. Changing the hardware to keep with times will also make the cabinets look fantastic.
- Layout – Unless the current layout of the kitchen is not functional at all, you can save tons on keeping the appliances like a sink, dishwasher, or gas stove where it’s located.
- Extras – After purchasing your materials, it’s all yours! Even the little bit of material that is left after the main purpose of it is complete. You would be surprised to see that piece of granite left to be thrown out being turned into a high-end cutting board. And it’s best to use as much material as possible to eliminate waste.
Here is a great article about where you should save and spend in a kitchen remodel. Ultimately it’s up to you and your budget, but a little help never hurts.
