Even though the holiday season is coming to an end, we are heading into one of the busiest times of the year. There is time spent with family, friends and colleagues for the holiday and end of the year celebrations which include parties and dinners! People are constantly going and coming, and with children out of school, life becomes a little busier (hopefully in the best way).

With all of this running around, you may not notice that there is extra wear and tear on your home floors. Towards the end of the year, most of us know that the rain can make even the most beautiful floors look undesirable and has the potential to do some harm. If you find that the weather is not working in your favor, the extra traffic can leave your floors scratched or stained.

Last year we wrote about this very topic, however we want to make sure that everyone can protect their flooring. Here are a few tips to keep those floors in tip top shape though the holidays!

  • Doormats – As family and friends come into your home, so can the dirt and debris that is caked on their shoes. An easy way to prevent most of the unwanted mess and possible boo boo to the floor is to put a doormat at the entry ways as a first line of defense.
  • Removals of shoes – For a second line of defense, have your guest take off those dirty shoes. For family this would be a no brainer, as you want to be comfortable in your home and because this is your home, feel free to ask guest to take their shoes off.
  • Rugs – Area rugs and runners should be used throughout the home in areas where the most traffic will occur. Rugs are also a great use for large parties as they will help protect the floor from food and drinks.
  • Maintenance – Yes, the word we despise because of all the time it takes. This is the way to keep those floors looking great though. Vacuum or sweep regularly, which means doing this task more frequently during the holidays. This will allow you to keep a watchful eye on your floors. For most floors standing water is not good, so make sure to clean spills and mess immediately.
