Islands

One of the most popular kitchen features are islands. Kitchen islands make great focal points and add a lot of extra space. Islands are so popular because they can add counter space, storage, a food prep area, and a space for extra seating.

Large Single Sink

Unlike double sinks, a large single sink can give you all the room you need to wash those large pots and pans. Currently the most popular size is  30 to 33 inches wide and 9 inches deep.

Extra Storage

It’s important to have enough storage in your kitchen, especially now that it’s so easy to buy things in bulk. Finding new ways to add storage space is somewhat tricky unless you have space for a walk-in pantry. Roll-out shelves and nifty, reusable containers are becoming quite popular.

Kitchen Dining

Depending on available space, kitchen dining areas are very popular. Even if it’s in addition to a more formal eating area, it’s nice to have a spot to just sit and have a quick bite to eat.

Clutter-Free Counters

Have clutter-free countertops visually increases the size of your kitchen. It also helps to have extra prep space. Find a new home to put away all those unnecessary gadgets and appliances to clear up some space.

More Prep Space

A lot of people feel like their kitchens don’t have enough prep space. The National Kitchen and Bath Association planning guidelines recommend that prep space be “a section of continuous countertop at least 36 inches wide and 24 inches deep immediately next to the sink for a primary preparation/work area.” This is where clutter-free counters and islands come in handy!
