As the economy starts to make a comeback, more and more homeowners are looking to upgrade and remodel their homes. Over time, granite has remained the material of choice with builders and homeowners alike. Whether it’s in the kitchen or bathroom, granite is here to stay. Many homeowners choose granite countertops as their number one project when upgrading their home for better resale value, according to the National Association of Home Builders.

So while there is little competition when it comes to popularity homeowner and designers are continuously looking for creative options when choosing texture, color, and installation options. We’ve compiles some of the latest modern trends in granite countertops:

Bolder is Better

While the style 10 years ago might have been to choose safer, more classic looks, homeowners and designers today are choosing bolder, more dramatic designs when choosing their granite. More so a work of art than just another granite countertop, granite slabs are available in hundreds of colors, textures and patterns that fit just about any buyers taste.

Texture and Veining

If you’re looking for unique and dramatic veining, it’s hard to beat the look of marble. But granite has one up on marble in that it is not porous or prone to staining. Save marble for the formal, low-traffic areas of the home, not the kitchen.  Today’s granite slabs are available in textures and styles that mimic that of marble while still providing the durability that a countertop demands. With hundreds of granite slab styles available and each one slightly different than the next, there are virtually endless options when it comes to designing your granite countertop.

Curves are Beautiful

If you thought granite countertops had to have straight lines all around, think again! As kitchen designers become more creative with their layouts, more and more curved counters and surfaces are emerging. The bold, sweeping curves of an island counter top mixed with the vertical lines of cabinets help to create contrast while providing a focal point in the kitchen. And if your kitchen is lacking space, curved countertops can help make an area feel even larger than it is.

Edge Details

One of the most commonly overlooked attributes of a granite countertop is the edge design. Such a small detail can make a world of difference and really add that finished look to your kitchen design project. Forget rounded or straight, how about options such as coves, bevels, dupont, bullnose, chiseled, and waterfall. Today’s modern designers are paying very close attention to how edge detail can add to the overall look and feel of the room.
