When designing a kitchen, there is no right way to complete this task. Yet there are some suggestions of things not to do during a kitchen remodel. Most of these seem like no brainers, but when you become super excited about remodeling your kitchen, things may be forgotten.
As you begin to remodel your kitchen, be careful not to:
- begin your remodel without planning.
- completely gut the space with it can be easily modified.
- believe that you must stay with the original layout. Think outside the existing design and walls
- underestimate the time and cost of this project.
- do it yourself when you should hire a contractor.
- ignore the functionality of the kitchen. Always remember the work triangle; the sink, refrigerator, and the stove.
- part from your home’s style so that it becomes the misfit of the house.
Now that you know some of the don’ts of kitchen remodels, here are a few tips that will allow you to have the kitchen you want, done correctly.
- never go trendy on a whim when you’re usually traditional and practical.
- If an island doesn’t fit, it doesn’t fit. No matter how much you want one.
- Try not to install permanent cabinet shelves. Adjustable shelving instead gives you space for those items that just don’t fit.
- Don’t block cabinet doors and drawers from opening with obstructions.
- Remember when moving a stove that you will have to rewire or rerun gas lines.
- Place the dishwasher near the sink.
- Buy the sink and then the faucet, but make sure that they are compatible.
- Make sure that you have plenty of lighting and outlets. The quality and quantity does matter.
- Upgrade to durable flooring. Most kitchens are high traffic areas and from all the cooking and cleaning, the floors can take a beating.
- Make sure that you have enough counter space for all of your cooking and preparing needs.
