Earlier this month, we talked about ways to keep the general areas of the home organized. Because organization is key, we are going to be going into more detail about organization in the kitchen.

Anyone who cooks knows that everything in the kitchen should be in certain locations, and when it’s not, disaster happens. To help prevent these disasters from happening, we are going to give some tips and tricks for kitchen organization.

  1. One of the most useful tips we can give is to store cooking equipment, utensils and other kitchen necessities where they are needed. If everything is located where it used the most, your kitchen’s efficiency will be maximized. To help maintain this efficiency, keep pots and pans near the stove with tools adjacent to make cooking easier. In addition to placing the correct tool in the correct place, ensuring that the tools are protected is just as important. To protect the delicate tools, line the kitchen drawers with non-adhesive shelf liners to keep the tools from shifting and sliding around.
  2. When you’re making your favorite recipes, it’s easier to finish when you have all the ingredients together. This includes the spices, the actual spice of life! There are several ways to keep this type of ingredient organized. Labeling it would be the easiest and make what you are looking for easy to find.

These next few tips are used for everything that you keep in a pantry, and keep in mind that keeping the kitchen organized doesn’t just mean the placement. Tasty food can only be made with fresh ingredients that are good.

  1. Make sure you keep an eye on dates and as they close in on the date, use them for maximum freshness. For those ingredients that have longer expiration dates, buy in bulk. Items that are bought in bulk can be stored in more manageable containers.
  2. Speaking of containers, these can lead to cabinets and drawers full of mismatched containers. Many new containers allow for each to fit inside one of another as well as the lids. This will decrease the amount of space needed and give you more space for the dishes you didn’t have room for.
