One of the easiest ways to totally freshen up your kitchen is by replacing your kitchen cabinets. Cabinets are one of the first things to become “dated”, so it’s a great place to start a remodel. There are many types of cabinets, so which kitchen cabinet quality is the best for your home? There are a few things to consider. We hope to help you make the best decision. It’s not such an open and shut case (pun intended), so let’s dive in and explore our options.
Custom Cabinets Or Not?
The first decision you need to make is whether or not you want to purchase fully custom cabinets. Custom cabinets are made to specification for your kitchen. If you have a uniquely shaped kitchen, this might be the best option. Customizing your cabinets will allow them to match the layout of your kitchen while also being innovative in design. You’ll also be able to select the materials, finish, etc. The main downside to custom cabinetry is the price tag. This is easily the most expensive option, so you’ll have to take that into consideration.
Another option are Ready-to-Assemble, or RTA, cabinets which come pre-boxed from home improvement stores. You will complete the installation yourself and can save a considerable amount of money. With RTA cabinets, the sizing options are very limited and the quality isn’t near those of custom cabinets. If you’re looking for a quick replacement, this is a decent option.
You also have the option of semi-custom cabinets. You’ll be able to choose from a variety of materials. However, the dimensions are fairly limited, but can be modified slightly. Semi-custom cabinets are middle-of-the-road when it comes to price and quality.
Deciding which level of kitchen cabinet quality you want will be key in achieving the result you desire.
